Cold Sesame Noodles
Ingredients
1/2 pound Chinese egg noodles
3 tablespoons dark sesame oil
2 tablespoons peanut oil
2 green onions, thinly sliced on the diagonal
1-inch piece fresh ginger, minced
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon red chili paste, such as sambal oelek
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
3 tablespoons rice vinegar
3 tablespoons soy sauce
6 tablespoons hot water
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
Cucumber slices, for garnish
Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish
Directions
Cook the noodles in large pot of boiling unsalted water over medium heat until barely tender and still firm. Drain immediately and rinse with cold water until cool. Drain the noodles really well and transfer to a wide bowl; toss with the sesame oil so they don't stick together.
In a small saucepan, heat the peanut oil over medium-low flame. Add the green onions, ginger, garlic, and chili paste. Cook and stir for a minute until soft and fragrant. Mix in the brown sugar, peanut butter, vinegar, soy sauce, and hot water. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and the peanut butter has smoothed out. Toss the noodles with the peanut sauce until well coated. Serve at room temperature or chilled. Garnish with the sesame seeds, cucumber slices, and cilantro.
Now, that being the original recipe (thank you, Tyler Florence)...I HATE CILANTRO. Hate. Detest. Loathe.
Obviously, I skip the cilantro. Says it serves 4. I say AHAHAHAHAHA.
And my font has gone crazy. Damn Blogger.
Anyway...
Partly mowed and trimmed...SQUEE! I'm so happy! |
Ok, ignore my neon yellow hose.
And the hose guides tossed into the garden (Oh hey! The new fence!).
And ignore the hostas that were trimmed by deer.
Just look at the dang grass, would you?
It's not blurry..it's your retinas melting. |
AHH GOD NO MORE! |
Even with the white balance crazy...they still make your eyes bleed. |
I said "something bright but not neon for the shade bed". Not even close, babe. |
Aside from the neon green, he was closer. |
Those were brussels sprouts |
Cauliflower and mini cabbages. |
I should probably stop picking on Michael for his love of bright colors... |
LOL!!!!!
ReplyDeleteer, yeah, i think you've got some things in common! so what color did you decide on the deck chairs?!
Does the fence keep the deer out?
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten to check my white balance on my camera.
yippee!! thanks for sharing the recipe! i may actually have all the ingredients.
ReplyDeletei like you husband's retina-melting choices! if you're gonna plant muted colors, why plant? might as well just sculpt your weeds into bonsai-like arrangements.
T, haven't decided on the chairs! I'm ready to buy new (NICE) ones. Those are the kind that you peel off of when you get up!
ReplyDeleteAbe, the deer aren't a problem in the garden..they just munch hostas. The groundhogs and rabbits are awful.
Oh, come on now, bon bon..there's a lot to be said for a soft, silvery pink lavatera!
My yard is starting to feel like Vegas! :D
Hey, it's all good. At least your hubby takes an interest in the flower garden. Mine is too busy on the one day off he has doing everything on my honeydo list.
ReplyDeleteI mowed our "lawn" yesterday and today and I have to say, it looks pretty darn good! :)
I have no flowers yet so your five hundred percent ahead of me! I love color also!

ReplyDeleteYour garden looks good to me - I'm clueless!
I like that phrase "they make your eyes bleed", for description of flowers!
ReplyDeleteWhat is it about cilantro that you do not like? I know someone who hates chocolate, which I could never imagine.
